Haydn’s six “Paris” Symphonies, including his exuberant
Symphony No. 84, were actually enjoyed by the court of Marie Antoinette. Russia’s musical voice—passionate and filled with yearning-—is embodied in Tchaikovsky’s immortal
Violin Concerto and his final work, the immortal Pathetique Symphony, each an iconic example of this powerful national style. For a welcome dose of comic relief, we will also perform the rollicking "Dance of the Jesters and Clowns" from Tchaikovsky's opera The Maid of Orleans—another NSO rare gem whose unbridled energy will leave you breathless. Young superstar violinist Joshua Brown, recently returned from the Tchaikovsky competition in Siberia, will bring the concerto to life with his own unique brand of musical artistry.
