Our season opens with an elegant souvenir which captures the excitement, color and romance of late 19th century Paris, from the alluring beauty of Debussy’s beloved Clair de lune to Offenbach’s dazzling, tuneful ballet Gaite Parisienne. Named after a famous nightclub in fin du siècle (end of the century) Paris, this sparkling pastiche includes a riotous succession of dances—polkas, waltzes, quadrilles and, yes, Offenbach’s zesty Can-can—all packaged in Manuel Rosenthal’s brilliant orchestration.

Tchaikovsky’s popular Serenade for Strings, complete with elegant waltz, soaring elegy, and robust, folk-inspired finale, completes this unique selection of “Night Music,” each a perfect showcase for the NSO’s superb strings.
