Dresden, the “Jewel Box” of Europe
A century’s worth of masterworks from one of Europe’s most iconic cities, begining with the first American performance of a glorious Baroque suite by Johann Friedrich Fasch, a contemporary of Bach. The work is essentially a joyous dialogue bewteen two separate orchestras, including a total of six oboes!
The concert culminates in Schumann’s dynamic symphony, a work whose blazing finale signaled the composer’s temporary victory over his personal struggles.
The Northbrook Symphony’s principal clarinetist, Joyce Stenzel, will be featured in Weber’s elegant Concertino.
There will be a free pre-concert lecture for concert ticket holders at 2:30 pm given by our popular lecturer, Jim Kendros, “The North Shore’s favorite music historian.”
